März 2012 um 20:30 im Saal des Hotel Ochsen in Muri Eli Degibri Quartet (USA) Über mangelnden Zuspruch von berufener Seite kann sich der israelische Saxofonist Eli Degibri wahrlich nicht beklagen: Herbie Hancock hat sich ebenso begeistert über ihn geäussert wie Al Foster. Und die Miles-Davis-Alumni Hancock und Foster beliessen es nicht einfach bei lobenden Worten, sondern holten Degibri für mehrere Jahre in ihre Bands. So kann es kaum verwundern, dass der mal draufgängerische, mal nachdenkliche Saxofonist zu einem neuen herausragenden Hoffnungsträger des Jazz avancierte. Eli Degibri begann im Alter von 7 in einem Musikschule-Programm am „Jaffa-Conservatory of Music" in Israel Mandoline zu spielen. Drei Jahre später, nach dem Besuch eines Jazz-Konzertes, verliebte er sich in das Saxophon und begann sein Studium auf diesem Instrument. Im Jahr 1994 & 95 erhielt Eli Degibri ein Stipendium um am Berklee College of Music b! eim „Summer-Performance-Programm" teilzunehmen. Im Alter von 18 erhielt Eli Degibri ein Stipendium um am Berklee College of Music zu studieren und somit zog er nach Boston in die Vereinigten Staaten. Nach nur einem Jahr am Berklee, war er einer von sechs Musiker die ausgewählt wurden, um am Thelonious Monk Institute am Jazz-Programm teilzunehmen. "Cross Road Blues" is a song by Delta Blues singer Robert Johnson; The lyrics tell of the narrator's failed attempts to hitch a ride from an intersection as night approaches. The song had frequently been linked to stories of Johnson selling his soul to the devil for the ability to play music, although nothing in the actual lyrics speaks of these events.Historian Leon Litwack and others state that the song refers to the common fear felt by blacks who were discovered out alone after dark; that Johnson was likely singing about the desperation of finding his way home from an unfamiliar place as quickly as possible because of a fear of lynching.In addition, the lyrics could be allusion to the curfews that were then imposed on blacks in the South. The imagery of the singer falling to his knees and the mention of his failure to find a "sweet woman" suggests that the song is also about a deeper and more personal loneliness. On March 10, 1968, Cream recorded a live version "Crossroad! s" from their performance at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The version was arranged by guitarist Eric Clapton, and included two lines borrowed from Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues."
